After an even and somewhat error strewn first 13 minutes it was Oldham who broke the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty underneath the posts for lying on. Fisher landed the kick. It was the Reds who notched up the 1st 4 pointer, through a great individual break and run from loose forward Saunders who ran in under the sticks. The conversion was popped over by Fletcher. Just 4 minutes later the reds went further ahead with a try from Nasir, after an attempted charge down by Oldham it fell kindly for Salford and the centre ran through to touch down. Fletcher added his 2nd conversion.
Oldham registered their 1st try on 25 minutes. Onyango who out jumped the defence caught a well-aimed cross-field kick in the corner. A great conversion from the touchline from Fisher made the score 12-8 to Salford. The reds edged further ahead just 5 before half time with a try from Williams, who crashed in out wide, the conversion was missed. That was the end of the scoring for the 1st 40.

It took just 4 minutes of the 2nd half for us to increase our lead, when Hobson went over from dummy half. Fletcher was spot on again with the kick. The game went into stalemate for the next 10 minutes, which was broken when on 56 minutes Sidlow smashed through to go in under the posts. The easy conversion was landed. Again after another 10 minutes or so we started to put Oldham to the sward. On 66, fullback Campbell, stepped, slid and scythed through the visitor’s defence to waltz in under the posts. The inevitable kick landed again by Fletcher. Just 2 minutes later Sidlow crabbed his 2nd when he craftily slipped through to put the ball down. The extras again added.
The scoring finally ended when Williams got his 2nd, a great solo run split the defence for him to score a great final try of the game, Fletcher tagged on the 2 and Salford eased down the gears for the last 5 minutes.
