After last week’s short yet sharp scare at Batley, perhaps tonight is an ample opportunity to play some of those who have been unlucky to miss out so far, if only to keep the first choice players on their toes. Robbie Paul should make his long awaited debut, roll cage and all, which will be an added bonus for the hardy Bramley supporters that make the journey over The Pennines. The reduced £5 admission should put a smile on their faces if nothing else; it perked me up no end.
You’re almost compelled to have a soft spot for Bramley. One of the traditional heartland clubs that joined the Northern Union the same year as Salford (1896), it was sad to see them resign from the professional ranks. However they were relaunched by their supporters and remain a shining example of how a club can be run, and be a part of the local community, without the need of a ‘sugar daddy’. Hopefully, they can take their place once more in the big time…well, National League Two at least.
This week’s ditty was the best of summer ‘06, bar none. Testify!
