Furner is a very experienced coach having previously been Head Coach of the Canberra Raiders for five seasons, Assistant Coach at the Raiders for three years, Assistant Coach at the North Queensland Cowboys for three seasons including their premiership year in 2015, and Assistant Coach of the Australian Kangaroos for six years under Tim Sheens. Last season he was also assistant coach with Tonga as they reached the World Cup semi final, narrowly missing out to England. He will team up again with Tongan half back Tui Lolohea at the Rhinos.
Dave Furner added, “First of all, it is fantastic to be heading back to a club where I have so many fantastic memories from my playing days. I would like to say thank you to the Board of Directors, Gary Hetherington and Kevin Sinfield for offering me this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping the club progress in the future. I know that Kevin and the team are working hard to get through the Qualifiers at present and I have every confidence they will do that with the backing of the fantastic fans at the Rhinos.
“I have had two wonderful seasons at the Rabbitohs and this was not a decision that I took lightly. Returning to England is something my family and I are excited about come the end of the season, in the meantime, I am looking to finishing my time at South Sydney in the best possible fashion and wish Kevin and the team good luck for the remainder of their campaign starting on Sunday at Widnes.”

| So dissapointing that they are sticking with current back room team, if that means all of them. Conditioner should have been the first out the door and changed.
Still think we could have done better, and moved away from a forward as coach, and we seem so stuck in a jobs for the boys at this club, but good luck to him, certainly a great rugby brain.

| Good appointment, responsible for Souths attacking structure, which has earned rave reviews in the NRL this season. For anyone like myself, who's been crying out for some structure, and some semblance of a plan in attack, this appointment should be music to there ears. Whoevers on our left wing nxt season will have a field day.

| Looking at the conditioning facilities they have at the Rabbitohs it is very likely that the fitness of the players will be at a higher level under Furner than is currently the case

| By announceing it now, im assuming he's going to be coming regardless of which league we'r playing in nxt season, good to see.
Powell was my first choice, but would of been happy with any of Powell, Furner, Demitriu or Griffin, glad we got one of them.

| Good appointment, current knowledge of coaching in the worlds best comp. don’t read too much into ‘everyone else is staying’ they can hardly tell them they’re off in our current predicament.
Finally, a good news day.

| A good start.
Just need two or three more players and we should at least compete next season.
