Wellens playing Fullback is completely different to Wellens playing second rower.

When we kept him for another season I assumed it would be to cover at Fullback and for other injuries. The difficulty is when Lomax is better what do we do. Wellens leadership is needed but apart from FB there is not really a position. Backrow suggested a rotating FB role for Lomax and Wellens. Wellens playing FB in defense and loose forward in attack.

I was actually thinking about this last night. Wello has been our standout player all season. After a difficult few years, where age certainly caught up with him, he has flourished under his new role as 'utility' player. When he came off the bench to plug whatever gap needed plugging, the entire team seem to lift. Add to that his passion and leadership (how many times have we heard the other players mention how important Wello is to the team), he has been phenomenal this season.

Losing the #1 jersey is probably the best thing that has happened to him for four years.
