Yes the tickets are scanned at all entrances although there are stewards to help if you have problems.

There are two !
The seated area in front of the North Stand (front fifteen or so rows) is the area known as "The paddock" and always was so even when it was standing only, its now also used as a family seating area, be aware when buying tickets there not to buy the first five rows if it looks like rain.
The standing area underneath the new Carnegie stand is also now known as the Carnegie Paddock, its a good option if you don't fancy the Western Terrace and is well covered in bad weather, has its own bar etc - but it will be crowded on Friday.
