Ian Smith was the referee, Joe Cobb and Clint Sharrad were the touchies.

Smith was dung today.

Totally agree with that.

Bad day at the office for "Smiffy" today.

Made a few shocking decisions.

Was it me or was the first Celtic try 2 yards offside?

Nope.

However the pass was 2 yards forward.

Can someone explain to me if it's the linesman or ref that is responsible for checking forward passes and offsides?

Offsides - ref.
Forward passes - touchjudges.

Of course either the ref or the touchjudge can make any call if they see fit to do so.

Actually, the touch judges are the ones that should be checking for offside.

The referee's job is to patrol the ruck area.

The level of competence shown by Mr Smith today was nothing short of shocking, and I hope that when he gets to sit with the other refs and see his performance he is suitably punished by his next game being an Under 10's (no disrepect to U10's).
His management of the game was non-existant, and his decisions were tragically inept.
There are bad days at the office, and then there are performances like today, truly shocking.
