A funny thing happened to me on friday when i turned to my saints fan friend and said i have no doubts that the wire would win tonight! now as i said that a sudden thought came over me not just in regards to that game but when did we go from saying i hope we will win but probably wont against most teams to i am sure we will win against most teams it seems to have just crept into our culture as the expectant winner wheras i remember the days not so long ago we were the expectant loser and a win was a bonus.

Just thought id see if anyone could pin point the moment that happened

You've always been smug, arrogant barstewards on the whole. You could, seriously, go through the many years of playing the fool against Saints and find tons of people who would say things like 'really can't see us losing this one'. The only thing that has changed is that you can actually win the games now.

where as i honestly always aired on side of caution however this season something has been different and i have been the unlikely optomist

I still do not go in to any game overly confident except maybe the challenge cup games against lower league opposition.

Too many years of let down teach me to keep my feet planted on the ground. Away games at the likes of Salford, Bradford, Wakefield, and Hull KR still fill me with dread.
Thankfully they are done and dusted.

Again, Cas away this week, I am not confident.

When I say this I mean that I believe that the team found the self-belief and confidence that they had the ability from this point onwards. As a fan I still have my doubts at times.

I'll bet it hurts Widnes fans to watch it and realise how far you've fallen. The problem was that the Widnes club was run like the Greek economy. Maybe this time round you'll be able to cope.

I reckon we used to lose these matches because we never paused for breath or punctuation and so eventually after one hundred words or so we just ran out of wind and couldnt play at all

For a few reasons really:- 1 - It was 22 years ago. 2 - We've won 2 major trophies in the last 2 years. 3 - You've spent a fair portion of the last 22 years a division below us. 4 - We sent you down. 5 - We're so wedged we could buy your ground tomorrow. Not off you obviously, off the Council that own it. 6 - We're challenging for the SL title. I'm 33. Unless I'm killed in a freak yachting accident, you're unlikely to do that before I'm dead. There's probably another 14 reasons but I think those 5 will do for now.
