Dangerous dogs are a growing blight on our society & taking 5 of them out all together is sheer stupidity. Put the bu**ers down !

Incredible that they've reached the verdict that they have. People who take dogs out which attack other dogs or humans should be punished far more severely and prevented from owning dogs in the future. It is the dog owner's responsibility to prevent them attacking other animals and people and this clearly hasn't happened here. I don't know Gene so don't want to comment on his responsibility levels, but as mentioned above, the sanity of having 5 dogs on a walk together at the same time doesn't sound particularly sensible. There should also be a licensing system around powerful or potentially violent breeds and a proper persons test. Any indication of them being used as macho jewellery should ring alarm bells.

Why should the dogs be put down, its the owner who is responsible for his/her dogs behaviour. The death penalty was abolished a long time ago in this country but we have no issue with destroying Dogs when in my opinion its the owner who is at fault.

Because a dog that would attempt to kill another dog is not a member of society that we need. We don't need a penal system for dogs. (This is wide open for Monaghan gags I appreciate).

Owners who allow their dogs off the lead are not in control of the animal and as such risk bad things happening. The owner should be dealt with as harshly as possible, if the animal has caused another animal to suffer then euthanasia should be the only option.

The victim could have been a child...your son, daughter or grandchild ! Any dogs that are potentially dangerous should not be allowed to wander freely without muzzles.. We have seen enough news articles of "such lovely, gentle" dogs turning on children & other dogs.A friend of mine had his guide dog attacked by a dangerous dog a few weeks ago.

No. I'm saying arrest and imprison and ban the owner from having dogs in the future. And kill the dog. Dogs are not wild animals, they are domesticated and animals that cannot control themselves should be killed. This won't affect many dogs, most well reared and looked after dogs wouldn't dream of committing murder.
