Correct. What Super League really doesn't need is for its clubs to be signing players who aren't even in the NRL!

I haven't even heard his name until earlier today, and certainly don't know if there is any truth in this, but I am old enough and wise enough to hear what those who are responsible for this type of thing think of the player before I make any judgement.

So he's not playing NRL - we have no idea why that is the case. We have a young English lad we are trying to sign who wasn't even good enough for our neighbours, but we think differently. Gareth Ellis couldn't buy a club at one stage; Aaron Murphy came from the Leeds set up - there are loads of examples where we have proved that our judgement is good in these matters - and that's all it is, judgement.

At the age quoted, this lad sounds ready for first team football. The truth is that most of our rising stars are not - yet, and it will take a year or two to get there. I fully understand the reasons why folk would not be as keen on this signing, but let's get some facts before we condemn!

I've never heard of him either - nor had I heard of Frank Winterstein. I'd much rather every SL club looked closer to home for players rather than looking to the Aussie leagues every time.

I don't think it's a case of us not looking over here, but there is an issue over the quality, cost and availability of players over here.

I am utterly convinced in the work the club is doing in trying to develop our own talent pool - as supported by the T-R-Y Squadbuilder scheme - and that this is also part of a much bigger picture involving all of the SL clubs (although we're one of the better ones at it

), but without a succesful first team, playing in front of decent crowds, watching a winning team; and without a SL place - all the development in the world will be worth diddly.

I know those who don't like the idea of this will accept it begrudgingly if it happens (on the basis of it being our club), but I for one beleive that we are still on the improve trend!
